Indulgence

the cup of life and light
overflows into darkness,
mankind sinks deeper down
into the bottomless pit with
walls of indulgence exposed,
hiding the ceaseless moans
of pleasure emanating below;
cup and saucer combined
become our universe,
our emotional and cultural
killing fields where the many
lay down their souls for
the right to have one more sip,
making sure they hold
their left finger just right.
