Within

Within the realm of possibilities
lies the fantasy of dreams and
the belief that one day all will
be as it was intended to be,
otherwise there was no rhyme
or reason to our existence here.

Looking Back

the more we live as adults
the more we think like children,
and we wonder if our personalities
will ever change or if our hearts
will ever stand all the stress;
yet, stress seems to motivate
and helps us rationalize
our bad decisions and poor
choices as we look back
and wonder “what if” it were
all different “or if” we were
somehow different in the
ways we lived our lives.

Watching

a cold day rises
inside warmth found
flowers withering
snow flakes falling down
snakes curled up underneath
green grass covers brown
a cold wind blows
silently through leafless trees
birds control their singing
squirrels walk across the lines
moments turn to minutes
days turn to weeks
months yield to years
and I wonder if I
still have time to cry.

Searching

falcons flow aimlessly through
the mountain walls that have been
so ruthlessly constructed over the
years by the raging waters of the river
that now runs silent far below the
flight path of these birds of prey,
who now must search high and low
for food that has all but vanished.

Spring

snow in the valley with
temps in the forties and
flowers poking through,
buds on tree limbs, as
March roars like a lion
in heat wanting to find
a mate before it gets
to hot for romance, but
until then socks on feet
and long sleeves seem
to be appropriate gear.

Songs

daylight hinders sight
darkness precludes sound
we live in caves of silence
growing hatred in the ground;
life robs us daily yet we
live another day and when
the sun goes down we
remember songs of our birth.

Living

we soar past the morning
and into the afternoon
before we realize
it is the night that is short
and forces us to begin
the absurdity again.

Lost Out Way

we lie, cheat, and steal
yet call ourselves religious
when in retrospect
we are anything but...
we use our wealth and position
to manipulate our wills
as others do our bidding
as if still slaves...
we compromise not to our neighbors
destroy our enemies but not
before they kill thousands
and when the war is over
we get richer rebuilding...
we hide our true feelings in
greeting cards and ask for
forgiveness when our time to die.

Dreams

a gloomy day befalls us
clouds all around
smiles turn into frowns
inside we must stay
even though warmer
and the butterfly joins
us for one last journey
through time and misfortune
when the bells toll and
we awake from our dreams.

Standing

she stands in awe over the forest
as if some kind of queen she were
and squirrels run over her limbs
on the way to softer ground but
in the twenty years that I have
seen her standing, she has not
wavered once when storms
engulfed her and has never
weakened in the heat of day.

Neighborly

wind blows through
the leafless branches,
cold lays on the ground
with the brown grass,
birds sing duets as their
young learns to fly,
winter comes late and
remains longer than
it was supposed to,
dead leaves blow around
the yards of the poor
and throughout the
community that supports
them all year long with
easy access to whatever
is new and old and
not being worn anymore.

Season's End

the blooms of spring appear
regardless of the cold as if
they are on a time schedule
to appear or not appear, but,
when they do it is a glorious
reunion of like minds and
souls that just love the season.

Someone

Inside the world of common sense
we see none at all being applied,
and the more we look, the less seen
finally realizing that none exists
unless you are reading a book that
was written by someone who cares.

Comment

life pins her expectations
on social media
crowds of people
like or comment
while some may share,
but in reality
nothing ever changes,
just more rhetoric
and lots of people
getting nasty with the
words borrowed from
another as they
seldom have any
of their own thoughts.

Hate

hate lives inside us all
from time-to-time, and
some deal with this eventuality
better than others;
still, hate is hate and
what we have,
we shouldn't have at all,
should we?

Fair Minded

our ways don't always
coincide with each other,
but we attempt compromise
and reconcile often so that
those who are offended
have a chance to become
appeased and pacified.

Living

time lives on the side
of the dead and buried
as those who are alive
have no time at all to
live life as they desire.

Bound

we are bound by our conviction
even though some are wrong
staying with what we believe
or what we have been taught
not so much because its truth
but because its what we think.

Robots

robots with AI brains
walk the floor as once
people did in our future
factories and we see no
alarm of what that
eventually might do to
our families and the
future of humanity...

Music

music, on the radio, plays
some might say noise
but for others, it is melody
and words that reach inside
and touch a feeling that
was absent for a while or
reminds us of a feeling
we no longer want to have.

TWO DECADES OR SO

TWO DECADES OR SO

twenty five years ago our paths crossed
in a rather unexpected way and
twenty years ago they merged into
one road with rather wide shoulders;

and, over the years, these shoulders
became so narrow that the only
road left was our original path we
began walking some two decades ago;

and, as that path continues nowadays
it narrows each year, leaving us
carrying each other when necessary
along the path of our winding journey;

and, as we carry each other, we learn
the undeniable importance of trust,
partnerships, and love that have always
given us our wonderful anniversaries;

and, this year has been no exception
even though the carrying has been mostly
you for which I am eternally grateful,
never being able to repay your caring.

Rain Rings

rain falls in
droplets on the
ground, making
splashing sounds
in the puddles
that do not perk
as we watch
the rings flow
outward as if
trying to reach
their destinations
before colliding
with other rings
that have the
same destiny
each time it
rains a little.

Resolve

the same grey sky
covers all sight
from left to right
and all around,
appearing to be
as boring as
it looks but
more dangerous
that it is since
we always seem
to underestimate
nature's power
that resolves to put
us in our places.

Long Before

possibilities exist
inside our heads
                           that seem foolish
                           to the old, but
                                                   their time has
                                                   come and gone
                                                                            and ours
                                                                            has just begun
                                                                                                    even though
                                                                                                    it has not been
                                                                                                                             earned and
                                                                                                                             never will as
                                                                                                                             all was given
                                                                                                                             long before now.

Low LDL

unannounced,
our fears arrive
just in time to
see hope disappear
as anxiety grabs
onto the lower
side of depression
and confusion.

Intended

sacrificed thoughts
and emotions
lay on the ground
like dead grass
mowed too short;
we survive
because we are
suppose to
and die
because it is
our right
to do so, but
do we live
as was intended?

Insight

how cloudy is
the morning sky?
foreboding in its
appearances to me;
rain is forecasted
and inside
will we be,
breathing
in the air of
centuries while
biding our
time, wishing
and wondering
for more
as if it
was somehow
deserved
since inside today
we must be.

Ever Present

this is a day of rest
a day of peace
a day for forgiveness
of transgressions;
a day of salvation
and acceptance and
to be one with truth
and harmony of all
memories gone before;
a solemn time
a joyous time
a rejuvenation of sorts
an inner peace and
contentment of all
that was ever present.

Banishment

the sky turns a bright red
background clouds purple
sun hides behind it all and
a heat penetrates the soul
as if some religious source
was burning a righteous
path through it all for sure;
cloud windows have closed
birds are asleep in trees,
slimy snakes slither by as the
ghosts from our past stand in
between our hollow images;
dead is dead and life fancies
another traveler who has a
lost less to loose when the
fires begin to burn inside and
mankind in finally banished.

Proof

remnants of time fold
inside my consciousness
while experiencing memories
that are not my own;
peacocks of thoughts are
shared surreptitiously in the air
as indifference flies over
them like a worn out flag;
downspouts of happiness
cloud my judgements
more often than before
leaving me finishing
what have never begun;
tears of fears roll down
the back of my head,
unfulfilled expectations,
and onto the floor like
a dead cat had been
left on the road while I
see more clearly than
ever before...

I must be truly insane.
