From 1984

#5
outside, the air
is still and musky,
distant lights flash
when fall announces
its dominance;
daylight yields to a
colorless, benign evening
and we,
with good intentions,
leave behind our
similarities in neat, little
piles of today's journeys,
while our differences
warm us...
for a cold, bitter winter
and our eyes
hold the true images
of our expectations.
