Harsh Reality

hundreds dead
cast away by water
nature symbolized
destructive and
powerful...
twice attached
and twice
survived, without
loved ones live,
compensation
offered too late,
we see it now
but welcomed it
earlier...
dawn's day arrived
damaged observed,
assessed, reported,
and replies stated
at grave sites too late
to be meaningful,
casted votes now doubted
saviors called upon,
in strange disguises
felt by brothers and sisters
long gone...
trees uprooted,
homes swept away with
praying occupants,
disturbed silence now
yelling instead,
watching it reported
hearing it stated
hundreds dead,
returning to complacency
and the next day as
time moves forward
never looking back,
never wondering what
might have been,
as the cards were played,
the hands dealt,
life taken from us
never disappears.
