Fort Walton, Florida Series

Day 3

umbrellas lined up like soldiers
waiting to be inspected,
strangers sitting next to strangers
from nine to five daily
without fussing or complaining,
man with binoculars looks
out at nothing except water,
hoping to see what?
renting umbrellas and chairs
saves time but not expense,
guards patrol east to west on
four wheelers with gear strapped
to the sides, they never use.
pillars of clouds float across
an imagined horizon as the belt
of division is no longer visible.
fishermen fish - diggers dig
walkers walk and sitters sit...
it is all part of it...  vacations...
narrow minds narrowly fit into
baseball caps worn to hide baldness
but strut nonetheless down the
shoreline hoping to be noticed.
we watchers watch it all expecting
someone else is watching us.
