Her song is written

on the faces of the

people she meets;

conspicuously avoiding

their friendships,

counting and recounting

the numbers,

deciding their innocence;

she smiles only at her advantage,

remaining equal distance

from the feelings held at bay;

her song is written

on a bed of loneliness

from which she awakes daily,

wearing a uniform of protection;

her song reaches out to the

people she meets in the

only way she knows how.
