we live our lives,
caring less
about our neighbors
than ourselves;
moment by moment
we drink in
life's pleasures
ignoring
her darker side
moment by moment
we use knowledge
as currency
less valuable than
the Confederacy
from which it came
less we not forget;
moment by moment
we dry our clothes
on the fences of
our neighbors, hoping
if stolen they
are not a good fit.
