Phoenix Rising

Out from an innocent sanctity you have emerged,

A victorious phoenix wearing lose fitting clothes,

Holding knowledge keys that open doors of trespass

to bridges of imagination and creativity that only a few can visit,

firmly grasping your value added walking cane, you walk

beyond Wadsworth house, Holden Chapel,

and University Hall…

beyond the legacy of Reverend Harvard

and the 500 acres,

beyond the 28 leaders that followed…

and the lectures and case studies,

beyond the pathways you’ve taken…

and the network of friends you will always cherish

beyond the alumni tradition…

(in whose ranks you now stand)

is the fire of inspiration in your eyes, currently burning,

and the coaching, soon to be attempting …

and yet,

here you are..

with all the those acknowledged rights and privileges…

so, understand this my nephew…

a proud mother

a proud father

and a proud family

will always be with you

as you do what needs to be done.

Note:  this poem was written for my Nephew who recently graduated...
