most of us no longer hunt
for what we don't see, instead
we are predisposed to assume
that our "born again" attitude
is the only ticket we need
to attend the dance we were
not going to be invited to
since our diminished hope is
surrounded by the sights and
sounds of emptiness and despair
and conventional wisdom tells us
we have no more crosses to bear.
