St. Augustine, Florida Series - 2024

mornings come early on vacation
crashing waves filter through windows
coffee smells float around the room
breakfast arrives with a knock on the door,
its value will last until noon...
chairs and umbrellas past the dunes are taken
blocking the sun that bears down
like the pressure of chest pain...
trucks cut furrows into the soft sand
walking easy is damn near impossible,
surfers and fishers dot the landscape...
umbrellas and chairs far from the water,
bikers weave in a d around walkers
towing services trucks pass by frequently,
it is the paradise of summer
lived out twelve months a year
and those who are here only temporarily
leave with lots of stories to tell...
rain showers passed by yesterday
gone like the end of a funeral...
seagulls fly low against the water
avoiding tourists who ignore them,
the rumble of diesel trucks drown out the waves
their sounds reappearing once passed
and we all sit calmly in the shade,
minding our business as we are supposed to.
