Observations

a frozen sun awakes in darkness,
a winterized earth turns blue,
picturesque humans bundle up as
domesticated pets chase their tails;
politicians play to a voting public,
businesses continue to downsize and call it good,
fleets of inexpensive minds circulate resumes while
judges interpret laws that make no sense;
same sex spouses struggle for control and
advertisers prepare for the super bowl,
educators stand in corners with pointed hats so
musicians can continue to play for the deaf and dumb;
monsters willingly roam and patrol our streets
and Cadillac Charlies turns a respectable profit
while dollar-less Donna draws like an artist;
what we see is not always what we get,
solutions sail past us on the wind explaining why
poverty shows no progress after fifty years;
Mother Mary no longer visits on the weekends,
ambivalence lays on the ground like black ice
yet we drive just as carelessly as before;
spices from the Orient numb our senses
and tattooed values stab at our souls,
distant rumblings of Iron Throne violence
cloud our impaired, untested judgments but
always fall short of receiving proper guidance.
