Waters Edge

glimmering
          shimmering water
as far as the eyes can see
struggles
to gain my attention
onward
         forward proceeding;

waves roll over
invisible tubes in their paths
of encroachment,
fizzling out at
the toes of the shore;

Afrika
          colored shirts
walk by slowly
deliberately
manifesting
          justice for all;

clicking cameras
with digital film
capture
what is seen, but
upon review
is almost never the same;

howling
          insights fade
in glorious perpetuity
filtered through polarizing
colored glasses
purchased in the Caribbean
tourists
          forever strive;

failing to grasp reality,
we beg forgiveness from
all the cloudy skies above us

wishing life
were a little simpler
in the way we respond;

night
          slices day
as we slice time
in play and in sleep
wondering
as we do if
our moments here were
worth the dime spent
watching the
glimmering
          shimmering water.
