A Burial of an Unknown Child
few witnessed the end of the day
as crowds spoke words of kindness;
few understood the meaning of a sound
as mourners heard cries of sorrow;
women carried hearts in their hand…
men trod their souls under heel…
controlled feelings echoed words’ passion
rented for the living, not the dead;
introverted smiles, repressed love, all
injected at birth with ancestral grace;
robed thoughts comforting not, lay silent
on the ground enshrining earth’s child.
