As It Is

tongue and groove is how our bodies fit,
an exercise in craftsmanship, allowing
no lifetime warranties or exchanges;
heart and soul we have pledged but for
only as long as we can remember that
we had something special to offer;
fits of impassioned words escape the
clutches of our will to resist when
conversations resemble not our love;
but, articulated anyway as we pound
in "no regrets" signs into perimeter
boarders of our imaginary lives;
no fault insurance claims take possession
of all the remnants we chose to leave
behind, fearing too much exposure;
all the floors of our volatile love
remain in tact filtered through minds
that will always see it as they want it to be.
