Self Correcting

as night forecloses
on another day, we
see our lives drifting
by as if we were in
a life raft that could
never reach the shore;

as day is regurgitated
from a greedy appetite,
we see opportunities
as if they were always
meant for someone else
hiding behind blank thoughts;

as decades soon collapse
around our feeble years, we
notice retrospectively how
quickly innocence stole
our youth and how slowly
we attempted its recapture;

as life transforms itself
to an everlasting death,
we see most everything
we need to see all at once
and become self-correcting.
