I suppose
to have coffee with a spouse

the beverage is not liked;
it is a ritual
I admit
to have sex with someone
who ordinarily
views you with contempt;
it is a ritual
they tell me
that vacationing with family
is a must do;
it is a ritual
I know
to remain married if only
for the kids;
it is a ritual
I have observed
that most marriages fail due
to these traditions.
