Defiance

a suppressing humidity
surrounds my head like
the pressure one feels
when accelerating in an
airplane's high incline;
and yet, there is no subsiding
as it flows down into the chest
and shoulders, churning and
massaging its way around
as if to prepare me for a feast;
but, in the spirit of this
sensation, I draw upon
a mental coolness,
a collected authority of will,
to disembowel the moment
of its intended purpose,
leaving it stranded outside
as if it were shipwrecked
on a secluded island.
