Because He Can

a lone wolf howls at the moon

because it can and sees in the 

light its ancestors who observed

the same ritual when they were

young and hearty...  a beggar

sits on the corner of a dirty street

with dirty hands and a dirty face

and begs for food, because he

can and because that is what his

family did when he was young...

a waiter in a white shirt and black

pants serves food to the wealthy

because he can and because that

is the only job he knows and it

has nothing to do with his family

who kicked him out of the house

many years before...  a man sits

at his computer day after day and

writes poetry that no one reads

because he can and because he

perceives he has a little talent.
