white capped waves prey
upon those sitting in chairs
too close to their adversary,
whose nature is to deny
admission to the sea;
and, while that is not
desired by the onlookers,
no judgement is made
by these guardians who
for centuries have executed
the same task each day;
and, as the sands shift
from year-to-year, the
onlookers remain the same
hoping their persistence
will claim the beast and
their patience will be
rewarded by allowing them
to sit where they want
for as long as they want.

through filters
seeing what we want to
ignoring all the rest
as if we know
what is best by
not changing
not thinking
too hard about anything
or someone pulls us
or pushes us in
that direction
because we allow
that influence to
take place even
when it does not
agree with what we
or that which we
ignore, always
putting us line
for more risks.
