we live in the shadows of our ancestors
being held responsible for what our
grandfather's grandfather's did or did not do,
and not about what is here and now...
not about our changes and opportunities
or improvements as we move forward...
not ready for immediate, society moves
like turtles and hybernating bears and
when it all collides we blame others for
our closed eyes and ears, letting damaged
hearts direct our actions and attentions;
life falls short of expectation and we want
racists to know it is their fault... even though
we are really no better than they are as we
perpetuate what they do with our rhetoric.
