Blinkin' and Winkin'

reflections of the morning
illuminate a mirror, the
earliest of dawn's lights
clearly shines through,
offering to be seen, not heard
as a new day begins methodically,
planned and rehearsed
the day day before as it
has been and will be forever;
we witness and re-witness it
and never are amazed but
always annoyed when it
seems to happen much
earlier than the day before;
dark on light shapes appear
in many recognizable forms,
creating the expected familarity
predetermined the day before
and possibly the day before that;
a daze of haze filters through
and out from the mirror
confirming suspicions that
the night is being shaved
away little-by-little again.
