Who Knew Me Once Is Gone

Bring me the remnants of my thoughts
and let me feast on them as
one might feast on a slaughtered pig
cooked over the coals slowly
and as the skin starts to buckle
and the meat pulls away tenderly,
then my time will have arrived and
the words that have laid around for
this moment will be revived and counted
making sure none were left behind
and none were repeated except those
we thought needed to be as efforts
were made to have it all make sense
but no sense was made of it
and never will be as the days for that
have long disappeared from view
and from those thoughts that only
memories seem to serve like subjects
might serve a king or queen or
even a high priestess who knew the land
and all it represented or once did
before all was lost in the great transition
of things old and new and forgotten.
