Survival

a heavy fog lays down in the valley
light rain and humidity persists,
identities hidden inside dwellings
fearful of a protected hidden sun,
evergreens offer no solution
fruit trees bear no fruit,
cutting grass is delayed and
rabbits roam around involuntary,
unnatural waterways pull water
from a dozen houses that are
left with sloping back yards,
witnessed each morning as life
returns to the lifeless whose
night is not so idle and long,
daylight brings a second chance
and second chances bring life
oftentimes taken for granted
but always reoccurring while
never the same but similar and
are reminded that nature
despite man's best effort to kill,
always finds a way to survive
never expected or needing help
from whoever seeks to destroy it.
