firmly on the ground,
flowers wilt
leaves die quickly
falling to the cold ground
and are buried
in mounds until burned;
with empty limbs standing
these trees planted years ago
remain healthy and vibrant
as they will burst forth with
new life in the Spring,
but until they do
will stand quietly in the ground
of their birth and
know no other lands
or will they ever;
even though their leaves
become a burden every Fall
they are all deemed necessary
will remain where they are
and be use for firewood.
