we remember
not our birth nor our
lives for the last
several decades...
but, we know
in general terms
wherewe think we
have been...
we were schooled
fought wars
made love
and worked for those
too arrogant to
work for themselves;
we grew food from
out of the ground,
worshipped on Sundays
and drank our fill of
the devil's elixirs
never letting intoxication
cloud our judgements;
we lived life as it was
meant to be lived,
without money
without means
without motive,
claiming most all of it
in good health
and with a sound
mind and body
until now.
