water and whales
breach together
fall back separately

then still and quiet...
below the surface
hiding behind
sunken icebergs...
danger passes
whales dive deeper
Humpbacks
and killers dancing
ceremoniously
together...
horizon covered fog
appearing night
not when expected...
we are new
to the coast and
its habits,
wondering when
we will finally
sleep again
and ponder if
we will remember...
