Self Incriminating

the sun shines

a son is born

we all relish in our good fortune

and two thousand years later

hate instead of love

permeates the land

and ultimately shines brighter;

our attendance in church

does not overshadow our crimes

as much as we needed

and our children grow

into the contempt we provided

in the teachings examples

of our consuming faith;

and in our guided process

we wonder why we

have become so forsaken

and question the cross's death

in our prayers that never

seem to be answered anymore

but our behavior remains

and the sun shines

and a son is born.
