Five At A Time - 1985 - E

GENTLY
balancing gently on the ocean spray
ardently waiting another breathe of life,
radiant and bold as the morning sun
brightly burns reflecting the sand,
asking nothing in return, but
remembering me as a friend and
birds riding the currents of the wind.

UNTITLED
we carry our shield
of forgotten promises
diligently avoiding
the consequences of
unwilling compromises;
faint reminders glow
in the light of the last
candle...  the last exchange;
the cards convey a
tolerance, a mutual
acceptance and we
drift into floating
moments with others;
time cannot be on
our side...  older not wiser
only older we become.

UNTITLED
beyond the imagination
paralleling a curved horizon
twelve parts divided
equal to the first...
a circle of friends
one theme united
pure energy of thought and spirit;
lords of time rule the
Zodiac's eighth sign like
a door opening and closing
once a year
bold and creative
wisps of wind stir the children's fire
boil and bubble
timeless trouble
tasting the inner bark of the Laurel tree
and we cannot conquer
the evening inconspicuously.

UNTITLED
harvest moon rising
yellowy brown
complementing colors
of a fallen season,
a transparent metamorphosis
and a diminishing warmth;
furrowed fields in obsolete obedience
await the reluctant rain,
leaves rest on the ground
in a patch-work quilt design,
dreary skies purge our suntans
and we, in retrospect, realize we
have survived another year.

UNTITLED
youthful dreams
worn and tattered
easily shattered in time
casually fill our demeanor;
vague and indiscriminate,
each with their own bargain
their own territory
like the Gaza Strip,
no one's domain yet the
skylight reveals our privacy.
